Introductory Membership
If you would like a hands-on introductory flight and the opportunity for more instruction in club gliders without a big investment, purchase a voucher for a first instructional flight in a club glider under the Soaring Society of America’s FAST program. This includes 90 days membership in the SSA (necessary for insurance), a log book, and an approximately 30 minute instructional flight and additional ground instruction. An image of your FAST receipt is enough to proceed.
Contact a club instructor to arrange your flight. You will have no further fees for this flight unless you want to extend the flight time, take a higher tow than 3000 ft, or take additional flights.
Complete the Application for Introductory Membership before meeting with your instructor.
As a FAST participant, you are granted Introductory membership in the Utah Soaring Association for 90 days after your first flight if: 1) you complete the Application for Introductory Membership, 2) show a receipt or voucher for a FAST flight to your instructor, 3) your instructor is satisfied you both can complete your first flight safely, and 4) your instructor uploads an image of your liability waiver. This and the flight can all be done the same day. After your first flight you can reserve and rent gliders (currently $75/hr) for flight lessons, solo flight or private pilot flight when qualified. After your first flight you would pay tow costs and instructor fees which are arranged with the instructor. You can apply for Full membership at any time.
